You can expect an 8-inch tablet to be compact and to be easily held in one hand. A good display is a crucial and our top 8-inch tablets will give you a pleasing, comfortable viewing experience. Expect them to have a quad-core processor and more than 1 GB of RAM, enough for a fluid, fast experience. Here, you have the choice of many OS, either be Android, Windows, iOS and Fire OS by Amazon.

Quality and Casing

Expect an 8-inch tablet to be made of a high-quality material, either aluminum or plastic. Though the quality depends on the price of the tablet, in all cases you can expect it to be sturdy and durable.

Asus ZenPad S8

“Great 8-inch Tablet at the right price”

The Asus ZenPad S8 comes with a beautiful, vivid 8-inch IPS display of 2048 x 1536-pixel resolution. The display has good touch response and the screen is perfect to watch full HD movie or streaming sports without any pixelization. On the audio-side, the dual speakers are less impressive, but still pretty good and certainly more than enough to enjoy movies and music.

Inside its nice & solid casing, you’ll find an Intel Atom quad-core processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The performance is good and handles multiple apps without any lag issue. There is also a micro SD card slot if you want to expand the memory.

It has a 5-megapixel rear and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera quality is average, and we didn’t expect it to be any better on an 8-inch tablet. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and can be upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus

“Well-built Quality Multimedia Tablet”

The Lenovo Tab 4 Plus is one of the best 8-inch tablets you can buy. It comes with an 8-inch Full HD display and, under the hood, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor. It comes packed with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. That’s more than enough to smoothly run any app, but I’d have preferred more storage space. If you want to expand the memory, you need to get a Micro SD card.

It is a good-looking 8-inch tablet with a solid & interesting design and you’ll easily hold it with one hand since it weighs only 0.66 pounds.
The display is surprisingly well lit, the viewing experience is good, as is the touch response. The Lenovo Tab 4 Plus claims to offer a very average ‘up to’ 10 hours of battery life and you can expect to get around 6-7 hours of usage when streaming a movie, while browsing may last for 10 hours.

The audio is pretty good thanks to its dual speakers and you can comfortably listen to music or watch a movie. It also comes with a 5MP and 8 MP front & rear camera, more than most of the competition. But the camera is of average quality, again proving that Megapixels aren’t everything.

Also The Lenovo Tab 4 Plus works flawlessly right out of the box thanks to the latest version of Android. Also, it doesn’t come with much of bloatware.
All-in-all, a very good product!

Amazon Fire HD 8

“Good Budget 8-inch Tablet”

The Amazon Fire HD 8 is a budget tablet that has all the bells and whistles you can expect at this price. It comes with an 8-inch 720p resolution display that looks good while watching movies or surfing the web. The display is responsive to touches and is not over sensitive: it’s how it should be. Also, the audio quality of the device is one thing that makes it a good purchase.

It comes with 1.5 GB of RAM which is okay for the price as it is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor. It comes with either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage space and you can expand the storage with a 256 GB micro SD card.

The battery of the Amazon Fire HD 8 is pretty exceptional for that price range. It will last up to 10 hours on mixed usage and 12 hours on light usage. The Fire HD 8 isn’t made for gaming, so if you are looking for a gaming tablet, this isn’t the one.

Buy the Amazon Fire HD 8 if you want a cheap and durable e-reader that comes with excellent battery life.

5 – Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 – 8″ HD

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

“Lightweight All-Rounder”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is a light weight 8-inch tablet with a slim profile. It is compact and can be comfortably used with one hand. It comes with an HD display which is adequately bright and responsive to the touches. The viewing angles are good too.

It is powered by an Octa-core processor along with 3 GB of RAM. The performance of the tablet is better than most and can easily handle web browsing, Netflix, YouTube and multiple instances of apps running simultaneously.

The tablet also offers 32 GB of onboard storage along with a Micro SD card slot for memory expansion. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow on top of Samsung TouchWiz UI.

The speaker of the tablet isn’t very loud and I wish it would have been better, then it would definitely be a top contender as one of the best 8-inch tablets.

Another thing that you may want to consider is the battery life. Samsung claims of 10 hours of battery life, whereas you can only manage about 7-8 hours of battery life, which is average for the category.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is a good all-rounder tablet with some areas that can be improved. Even if it’s a bit pricier than some of the competition, it is one of the best 8-inch tablets you can buy.

On the camera front, it comes with an 8-megapixel camera both at the front and rear, better than the category’s average. It runs on Android 6.0 which is upgradable to Android 7.0.

What’s good? The tablet has a good display; the hardware makes sure that the performance is smooth even while playing games and running multiple apps simultaneously. The metal build is durable and sturdy in hands. Fingerprint scanner works fine and the added AKG earphones provide an even more premium listening experience than the speakers on the tablet.

What’s bad? The camera is of just average quality and performance is a little weak when playing heaving games. Also, the UI is not for everyone. You may be better off with a third-party launcher if you don’t like Huawei UI.

The Huawei MediaPad M3 is a great 8-inch tablet that you can buy with no major drawbacks. It is fast, beautiful and sturdy.

“Budget Price with Crisp Display”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is one of the best budget 8-inch tablets that you can buy. The compact size of the tablet is one of the highlights. 8 – NuVision 8-inch – 8″ HD

NuVision 8-inch

“Unbeatable Price”

The NuVision 8 may not be a tier one tablet company, but it does make good low-cost tablets. The NuVision 8 is one of them. It comes with Windows 10 Home instead of Android, unlike the traditional 8-inch tablets.

The tablet is powered by an Intel Atom processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. There is 32 GB of onboard storage which is a good thing. The performance of the tablet is adequate for casual web browsing, video streaming and some occasional work. It also gets two cameras, on the front a 2 MP and at the rear a 5 MP camera.

The display of the tablet is crisp and is pleasing to the eyes. The tablet is well made, comes in an aluminum shell and is lightweight. The audio, memory and battery are some of the areas where the tablet lacks a bit and could improve.

Buy the NuVision 8 if you are looking for a cheap 8-inch Windows tablet with adequate performance. The price definitely makes up for the flaws of the tablet.
