What to Expect from the Best Tablets Under $200?

The best tablets under $200 are budget tablets, therefore your expectations should be aligned with that. You won’t get the best of the best, however, you can expect a good build quality, colorful display, clear audio, and a quite long battery life.

Quality & Casing

The manufacturers don’t invest much in the R&D of the budget tablets, so don’t expect a revolutionary design. However, you can get a lightweight tablet that you can usually use with one hand, with a good build quality. The top $200 tablets are well built and will survive accidental drops.

Display

A $200 tablet should have at least a decent resolution display with good touch response, viewability and color reproduction. You’ll find everything here: 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch tablets.

The top 200 dollars tablets come with an HD display that doesn’t look like a budget screen. Being an entertainment device, a display with adequate brightness and smooth video playback is a must and the best ones deliver on that side!

Performance

Most of the tablet under $200 run on mid-range or low-end processors from Qualcomm, MediaTek or Intel (Atom).

A good tablet in this price range should be able to handle video streaming, casual web browsing and other light tasks such as email without any issues.

Audio

While some clearly stand out in audio quality, most of them will have clear, but not that loud speakers. More than enough for watching videos, but don’t expect to host a party with your tablet.

Camera

In general, the less you expect from the tablet camera’s, the better. All the best tablets under $200 listed below have an average camera quality that is good enough for casual video calling, but probably not for quality vacation pictures.

Top 12 Best Tablets under $200

1 – Samsung Galaxy Tab A – 7″

“Good build quality, Display & performance”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is definitely one of the best Android tablets under $200. The build quality of this 7-inch tablet is decent and feels good in the hand. Even though it is made of plastic, we did not find any quality issues.

The 7-inch HD touchscreen display is no doubt one of the best in the segment. The touch response is good, and the color reproduction feels accurate. It is powered by a quad-core processor coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM. The tablet is ideal for video streaming, casual games, and e-reading.

I enjoyed the fact that the audio is loud and clear. Also, the battery life is good and can last up to 11 hours of usage on a single charge with moderate usage.

There aren’t many bad things to say about this $200 tablet, except maybe for the 8 GB of internal storage that will be occupied in no time. However, the micro SD card slot makes up for it as you can add up to 200 GB. Bloatware is something you need to consider as well. Too many unnecessary apps taking already limited space on the tablet.

All-in-all, a very good affordable tablet by Samsung!

Pros

  • Good Build Quality & Performance
  • Better than average Audio Quality
  • Long Battery Life
Cons

  • Only 8 GB of Internal Storage
  • Bloatware issue that eats up storage space

2 – LG Gpad 7 – 7″

LG Gpad 7

“Good Display, Loud Speakers, Long-Lasting Battery”

The LG G Pad 7 is a $200 Android tablet that runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. While it’s made of plastic, the build quality is impressive. It feels solid & tough, will survive a few accidental drops, and it provides a great one-handed grip. It weighs just 0.7 lbs, making it amongst the lightest in the segment.

Under the hood, it comes packed with a Quad-core Snapdragon processor that will easily handle any given task. Though the tablet has only 1 GB of RAM, the memory management is good enough that it will feel like you have more.

The LG G Pad 7 gets only 8 GB of internal storage, and half of the storage is already taken up by the OS and built-in apps. Fortunately, the SD card slot allows memory expansion up to 128 GB.

The 7-inch IPS display is pleasing to look at for long hours, making it a good entertainment device. The audio output is satisfactory for any content. However, the rear speaker placement isn’t very ideal especially when you are holding the tablet in landscape mode, as the speaker grill gets blocked. Finally, the battery life of the tablet is better than average and lasts long.

A great budget product by LG!

Pros

  • Good Display & Loudspeakers
  • Good battery life
  • 4 GB RAM
Cons

  • Bad rear speaker placement
  • Android 4.4

3 – Amazon Fire HD 10 – 10″ HD

Amazon Fire HD 10

“Large HD Display, Good Speakers & More Storage”

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is one of our favorite tablets under $200 as it offers a lot for the price. You get a 10-inch Full HD display which is sharp and pleasing to the eyes. Long hours of media watching won’t take a toll on your eyes! Also, the audio output is adequate and can be rated as good.

The Fire HD 10 is powered by a quad-core processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. Performance is good for casual web browsing, gaming, video streaming and even for light office work like Word processing, etc.

Even if it’s one of the cheapest 10-inch tablets, it still comes with 32 GB of onboard storage leaving an adequate amount of space for media and apps, something we appreciated. Talking about apps, the Amazon Fire HD 10 runs on Amazon Fire OS and does not have Google Play, which means you won’t have access to apps & games you would on another Android tablet.

On the minus side, the build quality of the tablet is nothing to boast about and could have been a little better. Also, the battery life is only good for 7 hours of usage which is understandable looking at the display size and resolution.

Pros

  • Good Display
  • Pleasant Sound Output
  • Good Storage options
Cons

  • Plastic Build
  • Amazon Fire OS

4 – Asus ZenPad 8 – 8″

Asus ZenPad 8

“Great Looking 8-inch with Good Display”

The Asus ZenPad 8 is one of the best-looking tablets in this segment and also one of the best tablets under 200 dollars. The build quality feels solid, and the anti-slip back makes it easy to handle with one hand.

The 8-inch touchscreen response is snappy, and the viewing angles are good. The ZenPad 8 is powered by a MediaTek processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. The performance is good and can handle tasks such as video streaming, e-reading and casual gaming without any problem.

The ZenPad 8 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop that can be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat. The Asus Zen user interface is nothing to boast about and I felt a bit annoyed by it. It’s not a deal-breaker, but Asus should correct that. And, thankfully, the 16 GB of onboard storage can be further expandable using the SD card slot.

The speaker is just average, and the battery can last up to 8 hours, which is also not the best in the category.

A good looking, quality product by Asus!

Pros

  • Good Display
  • Good Performance
  • Upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat
Cons

  • Average Speaker
  • Asus own User Interface could be better

5 – Asus ZenPad C – 7″

Asus ZenPad C

“Lightweight, Well-Built & Premium Looking with Decent Performance”

Asus has built an ultra-light tablet with the ZenPad C. At 0.58 lbs, it’s amongst the lightest of the lot. The tablet is well built and looks good.

It comes with a 7-inch LED backlight HD display. The viewing angles are good thanks to the LED display, and the touch response is snappy. It is powered by an Intel Atom x3 processor paired with 1 GB of RAM. The Intel processor can handle casual gaming and web browsing without any problem.

The 8 GB of storage is quite limited since half of the storage will be occupied by the OS and Apps. However, the expandable SD card slot comes in handy. The camera unit on the tablet is average at best, so I wouldn’t use it for my vacations pictures. As for the battery life, it’s good for up to 8 hours with moderate usage, which is acceptable.

6 – Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 – 8″

Lenovo Tab 4 8

“Unique Design, Good display, and Long Battery Life”

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 is a unique tablet in terms of design. The tablet quality is ok for the price tag, but it does look premium. It also has a kickstand that makes it easy to put on a flat surface and enjoy a movie – much more useful than holding it in your hands or spending for a case.

It’s a great multimedia tablet since the 8-inch HD IPS display is a treat to watch and brightens up adequately even in luminous conditions. Also, the bottom firing speakers are loud and clear.

Under the hood, it’s powered by a Snapdragon processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. The performance is adequate and can handle multimedia content and casual web browsing without any problem. There is 16 GB of onboard storage along with a micro SD card slot for memory expansion.

Battery life is pretty good and can last up to 10 hours of moderate usage. On the minus side, because of its unique design, the Yoga Tab 3 is a little bulky, weighing 1.03 lbs.

Pros

  • Good Display
  • Good Battery Life
  • Good Audio
Cons

  • Average Performance
  • Average Build Quality
  • Bulkier and Heavier

7 – Samsung Galaxy Tab A – 8″

Samsung Galaxy Tab A

“Excellent Display Quality, Good Performance & Affordable”

This variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A comes with a well-built chassis, equipped with an 8-inch HD AMOLED touchscreen display. The tablet feels good, solid and light in hand. The display itself is rich in colors and vibrant like any other Samsung device.

The tablet is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of inbuilt storage. Performance is good and can handle most tasks without any issues.

The camera unit works like most tablets’ camera, producing average quality pictures. The speaker is not that great, but still enough to enjoy your videos. However, you get a pretty good battery life.

  • Good Performance
  • Good Build Quality and Light Weight

“Good HD Screen and Excellent Battery Life”

The Lenovo Tab 4 is an 8-inch tablet equipped with a good display. The display is responsive and plays HD content without any stutter.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The performance is adequate and will meet your entertainment needs including video streaming and casual gaming easily.

On the plus side, the Lenovo Tab 4 runs on Android 7 Nougat and offers around 10 hours of battery life. I would have preferred that the audio be a bit better as it is a little weaker than other tablets under $200.

9 – Huawei Mediapad T3 – 8″

Huawei Mediapad T3

“Good performance, Battery Life & Build Quality”

The Huawei Mediapad T3 deserves to be on this list of the best tablets under $200, but it would not be my first choice. The build quality on this $200 tablet is good, despite being an all plastic body. It also has average weight compared to the competition.

It comes with an 8-inch HD display that is of average quality, not as good as some Samsung or Amazon Fire tablets. Powered by a Qualcomm processor, it handles casual web browsing and gaming smoothly. It also has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of onboard storage, which is enough to have multiple apps opened at the same time.

The speaker could have been better, but it does have a long-lasting battery. It runs on a recent Android version, something not all $200 tablets do.

11 – Lenovo Tab 7 Essential – 7″

Lenovo Tab 7 Essential

“Low-Cost 7-inch”

The Lenovo Tab 7 Essential is a low-cost 7-inch tablet with an HD display. The screen could have been better, but we can’t really complain when we look at the price.

The build quality is good, and the tablet is feather light at 0.56 lbs. On the performance end, it gets a MediaTek processor with 1 GB of RAM. The hardware combo is very acceptable for the price and will handle casual tasks like video streaming or casual web browsing smoothly. However, under heavy usage, the tablet will crash.

The battery life is good at 10 hours, and the tablet runs on Android 7.0 Nougat. Also, the speaker on the tablet is of average quality, but enough to enjoy videos and music.

12 – Toshiba Encore 2 WT8 – 8″

Toshiba Encore 2 WT8

“Windows Tablet good for College Students”

The Toshiba Encore 2 WT8 is the only Windows tablet on this list. It is an 8-inch tablet with HD display. The touchscreen provides a good touch response, and viewing angles are decent. The battery life is good, as is the audio quality since the speakers produce a clear sound output for a tablet.

Powered by an Intel Atom processor and Intel Mobile HD graphics, the performance is adequate for most of the apps you will install like MS Office, web browsers or Skype. However, only 1 GB of RAM means that you cannot run resource hungry software like Photo editors.

It has 32 GB of internal storage that is further expandable via a micro SD card. The tablet weighs 0.84 lbs which doesn’t make it the lightest 8-inch tablet but still light enough that it won’t be a problem while carrying it around.

Pros

  • Great Audio
  • Good Battery Life
Cons

  • Too little RAM for Windows
