Tablets for Seniors – Easy to Use with Great Display

Best Tablets for Seniors

If you’re looking for a tablet for senior citizen or for a tablet for your elderly parents, chances are that you may have specific needs in mind. They differ from person to person, but the best tablets for senior citizens should meet at least some basic requirements.

Most senior citizens are not power users, and they prefer a tablet that can do basic tasks like send and read emails, help them read without straining their eyes, make video calls and of course capable of running Android and iOS games for fun time. The best tablet for elderly should also be easy to handle and use.

Keeping all these needs in mind we have created this guide to help you find the best tablets for seniors.

What to Expect from the Best Tablets for Seniors

The best tablets for seniors should allow them to read easily, whether it’s to send and read emails, to read articles or to read an ebook with ease. For that, a senior’s tablet with a colorful and bright display with a pinch-to-zoom feature is essential. They also watch YouTube videos, movies, and, let’s be honest, they’ll also love their grandchildren to watch cartoons with them. For that, a good quality display is a must.

A tablet for elderly should also allow them to catch up with their families on social media, browse the web for recipes and make video calls. Above all, it should be compact, lightweight and portable so that it can be easily be held and carried around. You don’t want to hand over a big bulky device that has no use in real life despite having a powerful hardware. A product capable of doing all these is the right tablet for your elderly parents.

Quality and Casing

Quality and casing greatly depend on the price, but the best tablets for senior citizens should have a reliable build quality that can survive accidentals drops on a day-to-day basis. You should expect it to be lightweight, compact & portable and a tablet that you can hold in hands for long hours.

Display

The display is the essential part when you are looking for the best tablets for seniors. A tablet with a bright screen will help with reading even under bright lighting conditions. At least a 720p touchscreen display is necessary for watching movies and YouTube streaming. Tablets in this range offer HD to 2K resolution display, both being good enough, even for people with poor eyesight.

Performance

Here, a tablet with mid-range specification should suffice. While the high-end chips offer the best performance, even a mid-range tablet can handle casual web browsing and email tasks smoothly.

All the products in this list are good tablets for seniors to play games. Whether it’s to play word games or to allow their grand-kids to play, they’ll perform well enough so that it doesn’t lag.

Audio

Audio is again one of the essential features that you need to consider while buying a tablet for seniors. Tablets are not known to have the best speakers, and when your hearing starts to give up a little, that might become very annoying. So for that reason, choosing a tablet with excellent audio quality and loud-speakers is a smart choice.

Camera

A tablet’s camera is not of smartphone quality, but some of the top-of-the-line tablets offer decent camera units that can capture decent photos with details.

For sure, they’ll be more than enough to make video-calls with family and friends.

Software

Most of them run Android or iOS out of the box. While Windows is an option, we would suggest you use Android or iOS for a better user experience since Windows may involve a learning curve. There are specialized apps designed for tablets for older adults that simplify user interface to suit them better.

Other Aspects

A tablet with a good amount of internal storage is a better option, but not mandatory since they tend not to install that many apps & games. Although, the best tablet for seniors will have a good battery life so that it can be used all day. Also, a fingerprint sensor can remove the hassle of typing or drawing patters to unlock the tablet.

The build quality is top notch with an aluminum finish, and the tablet feels premium. One could argue that bezels are thick, but thick bezels offer better handling and reduce accidental touches.

The 10-inch display is Apple’s pride, and it is sharp for watching movies and playing games. Sending and composing emails isn’t an issue either. The display gets adequately bright and offers good viewing angles.

3 – Samsung Galaxy Tab A – 10″ HD

Samsung Galaxy Tab A

“Good Display & Audio”

If you want a Samsung device, then the Samsung Galaxy Tab A is a good choice. It is a large screen device that helps in reading ebooks and web pages without straining your eyes.

It is an affordable 10-inch tablet that comes with Samsung’s Super AMOLED display with a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1220. The display is bright and offers good viewability and color accuracy. Performance is not an issue since it is powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. You can read and send emails, do casual web browsing, play games and watch movies without any lag issues.

The 16 GB of internal storage can be further expandable up to 128 GB, and the tablet also supports screencast on Samsung Smart TVs. There are an 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front facing camera which produces good quality images, better than most tablets.

Samsung has also included a universal stylus with the device that enables you to take notes or make drawings. While there isn’t much to complain about the tablet, if we have to nitpick, the lousy button placement makes for accidental clicks that lock the device.

This is definitely a great Samsung tablet for seniors!

4 – Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 – 8″ HD

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

“One of the Lightest Tablet”

If a 10-inch tablet is too big for you, try the Galaxy Tab S2. It is a small compact 8-inch tablet that comes with an 8-inch 2K resolution display. The colorful display is good for watching movies and the text and images appear clearly.

The build quality is good despite being an all plastic body. Thanks to the compact size, portability and handling is not an issue. The octa-core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM can handle emails, web browsing, casual gaming and video streaming with ease.

The Galaxy Tab S2 runs on Android 6.0 out of the box and comes with 10 hours of battery life. You can further expand the storage using the micro SD card slot if the onboard 32 GB storage is not enough.

The areas where it could improve include audio and camera quality. The picture taken from the 8-megapixel camera is decent, but the front-facing is nothing impressive. So is the audio. The lack of a fingerprint reader is also something you can consider if it is an important feature for you.

5 – Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus – 10″ HD

Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 10 Plus

“Great Multimedia Tablet, but bulkier”

Lenovo has marketed the Yoga Tab 3 plus as an ideal device to binge-watch your favorite TV shows on Netflix and other streaming services, and we can’t disagree with it. The Yoga Tab 3 is a unique tablet that comes with a bright and beautiful 10.1-inch Full IPS display, offering great touch response and viewing angles. The display is sharp and supports pinch to zoom feature for better reading.

The Kickstand on the tablet is useful as you can keep the tablet on any solid surface. If there is no solid surface, you can hang the tablet using the hanger on the kickstand. Pretty unique!

The audio quality is excellent with dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. Lenovo has also packed the Yoga Tab 3 Plus with all the necessary things including a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. You also get over 12 hours of battery life which is enough for long day use.

The downside to the tablet comes from the very fact that it is a feature rich device hence resulting in being a bit bulky at 2 lbs which is heavier than other similar size tablets. But for a multimedia tablet, it’s great!

  • Awesome Display
  • Great Audio
  • Useful KickStand
  • Battery life

“Easy to Carry with Great Screen & Loud Speakers”

The LG Gpad 7 is a compact 7-inch tablet that is affordable and comes with a decent set of specifications. If you want a low-cost tablet with all-rounder performance, the GPad 7 fits the bill.

The 7-inch HD resolution display is bright and colorful. Reading and composing emails is smooth and the movie watching experience is good as well. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor paired with 4 GB of RAM. This hardware duo will easily handle web browsing, casual games and media streaming.

There is 16 GB of internal storage and a micro SD slot for memory expansion. The camera on the tablet is of poor quality, but we were impressed by the loud audio.

The battery life can last up to 12 hours on a single charge, and it is portable and lightweight at 0.65 lbs. Coming to the downside, the speaker placement could have been better and the Android 4.4 Kitkat a bit old.

# 7 to 12 Best Tablets for Seniors

7 – Amazon Fire HD 8 – 8″

Amazon Fire HD 8

“Low Cost 8-inch”

The Amazon Fire HD is the best tablet for senior citizens with poor eyesight. The tablet comes with a screen reader feature that converts the text into voice. Very useful! But if they’re used to working with Android, it might take a bit of adaptation since it runs on Amazon Fire OS which is a forked version of Android.

The 8-inch touchscreen has a 1200 x 800 pixel resolution and offers good viewing angles for the price. The touch response is good too. There is no front camera, and the rear camera is mediocre at best.

It is powered by a Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor paired with 1.5 GB of RAM. It’s not the most powerful, but it’s still satisfying. The tablet worked just fine in our testing that included multiple tab web browsing, video streaming, and some casual gameplay. The performance is complemented by a long 12 hours of battery life.

It comes with 10.1-inch Full HD display with good viewing angles, adequate brightness, and sharp picture quality. The audio on the tablet is on the impressive side too. So it’s great for viewing videos.

Powered by a Snapdragon processor and 2 GB of RAM, we did not notice any lag during gameplay, web browsing, and streaming sessions. The onboard 16 GB of storage might be a little underwhelming, but you can always insert a micro SD card for memory expansion.

Tab 4 Plus runs on the latest Android 7.0 out of the box and the 11 hours of battery life is good for a day’s work. Also, the fingerprint reader unlocks the device with good accuracy.

The display is bright along with good color accuracy and makes it a good multimedia device for watching movies. To meet the performance needs, Huawei has thrown its in-house Kirin 950 Octa-core processor with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. 10 – Asus ZenPad C – 7″

Asus ZenPad C

“Affordable Tablet for Seniors”

The Aus Zenpad C is an entry-level budget tablet that comes with a 7-inch display, and the Asus’s trusted build quality. However, if you compare it to the similarly priced Amazon Fire device then the ZenPad feels a little under-spec’d for the price.

This tablet comes with a wide resolution display and is powered by an Intel Atom processor with 1 GB of RAM. While the display is average, the performance is worth the price. You can quickly browse the web, watch YouTube videos and even compose emails without any lags. This is not a gaming tablet, but you can still play casual games on it.

The 8 GB of internal storage is not enough, but it comes with a Micro SD card slot for memory expansion. The rear and front camera units are mediocre, and it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The tablet fails to take the lead in this segment mainly due to low RAM and mediocre camera.

It has 8 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot for memory expansion. The rear camera is average, and the front-facing camera is missing. 12 – Dragon Touch X10 – 10″

Dragon Touch X10

“Low-Cost 10-inch but a Bit Slow”

If a brand name is less of your concern and you would rather prefer usability over it, then the Dragon Touch X10 is an excellent alternative to other 10-inch tablets. It is an affordable tablet with a decent set of specifications, and above all, it comes with a mini HDMI port to connect to your TV.

The Dragon Touch X10 also comes with a 10.6-inch HD resolution display with 178-degree viewing angles. The display gets adequately bright, and the touch response is good. We did not notice any major issues with the tablet during movie playback and YouTube and Netflix streaming.

The tablet runs on Android 5.1 OS out of the box and is powered by an octa-core processor paired with 1 GB of RAM. The performance is decent for the price as we were able to browse the web with multiple tabs open. However, anything slightly demanding makes the tablet slow due to the low amount of RAM.

The Touch X10 comes with 16 GB internal storage and a micro SD card slot. While the tablet is relatively heavy at 1.98 lbs, the 7200 mAh battery can power the tablet for only 6 hours at best.

The Dragon Touch X10 is an affordable 10-inch device and may be better than any other tablets in this price range.
